I'm just curious because I know almost no one stays after Mass at my parish at home. Instead, the large church building becomes the best place to have conversations for the first five or ten minutes after Mass.

While I don't think people should talk it up in the Church after Mass (that's what outside is for), I don't think you have to stay after Mass to give thanksgiving. That is what the period after communion is for.

But what I mean is I don't think we should assume that just because someone doesn't stay after Mass, they haven't given thanksgiving. It would be hard to answer the poll because we don't know who gives thanksgiving for communion, unless we define "thanksgiving" as "staying after Mass". Only God can know who truly gives thanksgiving and who doesn't.

I usually do if other people arround me are. but if I'm in the middle of thew pew and everyone is trying to get out, its a little more difficult.

I love to go to the perpetual adoration chapel for thanksgiving ^_^ But, I do enjoy a prayer after Mass if my mother isn't pushing me out of the pew... <_<

Lounge Daddy

quite a few families at my parish remain after Mass and pray to St. Mike The Archangel, and to offer quiet thanksgiving for His Holy Mass, and Sacraments recieved

as for the loitering and chit-chat, we have a great parish that takes it outside - even in winter... and we have a priest that reminds our parishioners to not socialize in the church before or after Mass, because that is what we have a parish center for, or take it outside
in fact, he wrote about this very subject this past month

Ash Wednesday

I give thanksgiving in my heart after taking communion -- or at least try to remember to -- when I'm not whining about something and asking God for help.

I very much like the practice and try to do it whenever.

At the parish that we went to Mass at today, it was very noisy afterwards. People just started talking and it was like this massive explosion of sound.

THough it is getting better. THey just got a Tabernacle back in the Sanctuary (it was a 70's parish) because of our bishop. :)

A very good prayer of thanksgiving after Mass

Sweetest Jesus, Body and Blood Most Holy
Be the delight and pleasure of my soul,
my strength and salvation in every temptation,
my peace and joy in every trial,
my light and guide in every word and deed
and my final protection in death.

Amen.

I dont stay to give thanksgiving, but I do pray the Leonine prayers, so I chose the option of "yes" that I did give "thanksgiving" after Mass.

I enjoy those few quiet moments. Trouble is, the church is extremely noisey. Many people bolt for the doors as soon as communion is done, that is distressing. I don't have alot of spare time during the week for visits, so this is my time.

I most certainly do after every mass. It depends on what church I go to, the normal one, only a few people stay, in one church, absolultey everyone leaves the church vacant and I'm alone. So, it varies. Some churchs half the people actually stay to pray outloud together. It all depends on the congregation and tradition of that church.
