criminalizing homeschooling

What is disturbing is that the Supreme Court is starting to take foreign opinion into account when handing out rulings. Don't be surprised if it makes its way into this issue as well. :sadder: :sadder:

I would agree with you, except for the fact that it is a world influence and if the US were to leave the U.N., countries against the US would fill the "space" formerly filled by the US and twist it to look like world opinion is different than it is. And we'd have the whole world hating us, instead of just half...

It already is with the US still there!!! I mean, doesn't Sudan or Cuba or Iran sit on the human rights commission? What a joke...

This comment depresses me so much... You have no idea how scary it is to have to ASK the government if it would be "okay" for you to raise your children as you see fit. :sadder: :sadder: :sadder:

:maddest: What makes me so mad is that the government schools' track record is not so hot and yet they want to insist we all participate... What business is it of theirs? JUST LEAVE US ALONE!!!!

Sorry... hotbutton issue...

I utterly despise the U.N.
Get US out of the UN!

I can tell you for a fact that if homeschooling was outlawed around here (especially if done for reasons of enforcing U.N. dictates), there'd be an armed uprising!

oh yeah. I'd start my own armed uprising. lol

The idea of homeschooling as illegal is crazy. I wish there was something more we could do with all of these liberal judges (and international courts).

It is a choice that people should have and not be forced into. May God guide those who are in the position of deciding on this issue.

I don't think some like that would be done by any particular political group except maybe facists or something. The idea of not allowing parents to educate their children is totally Orwellian, and liberals would be totally against it.

One could HOPE that the UN will be reasonable...this premise of homeschooling being illegal is insane...and forgive me...but I'm not sure WHY they want to make it illegal...(maybe somebody explained it in an earlier post)...Why don't they just create certain educational criteria that homeschooling children & parents need to meet without dictating... OH! this would get REALLY messy in areas of sex ed & science (Creationism vs Intelligent Design vs Evolution)...I think I just partially answered my own question! :detective:

Homeschooling was illegal in many states not too long ago, as a matter of fact. When she was growing up in the '70s, my Mom knew a family whose parents had been to jail because they tried to homeschool their kids.

Yeah, I think it's only been legal in all 50 states since the late 80s or so...

What is disturbing is that the Supreme Court is starting to take foreign opinion into account when handing out rulings.
Disturbing is the right word. The role of the federal court is to interpret federal laws, not impose foreign law on us.

It's sad that four out of the eight most recent "Countries of Particular Concern" mentioned by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (2006 Annual Report) are actually members of the UN Human Rights Commission. They are: China, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan.

I find it interesting how secularistic "elites" believe they are smarter than the religious majority, yet they create utterly idiotic laws and promote ideals that are destructive to their own dang race. I can't wait till our decendents read in their history books how horrific, and stupid, these people were.

I completely disagree. I'm not sure how much of the population supports homeschooling, not sure how many even care. You might get four or five nut jobs driving up to Washington toting guns and trying to pop caps in senators. But these acts would be frowned upon by the media and the general public. Most people really wouldn't care. Maybe I'm not understanding your definition of "armed uprising," but if you know for a fact there would be one, I wonder what else you know for a fact.

I said "around here." You obviously ain't from these parts, son!

I don't know anything about Steubenville, but I know a lot of homeschoolers out here who are extremely passionate about it, and would not stand for some liberal-activist judge banning homeschooling due to some U.N. mandate.
