mulls
come on people.....can we call it the Catholic Church as an abbreviation in the interest of not having to type out Catholic Church all the time or not? I know Circle and Bruce S have been getting admonished quite often for this but this is from Dave in another thread: Yes, Christ has had a Church from the very beginning, but that Church was the Catholic Church -- the Roman Catholic Church, that is! there it is, Catholic Church, from one of your own. so can we come to a conclusion in order to stop the needless bickering? i can only speak for myself, but you can call me whatever you want.....prot, brother, heretic, bible worshipper, whatever. i'm secure in Christ. hyperdulia again
The Roman Catholic Church is Rite of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. To say Catholic Church when referring to the teachings OHCAC is offensive to members of the other Rites of the Church. It also implies that Truth can somehow be modified. Catholic stands on its own and needs no other word to modify it when referring to faith and morals.

If you want to keep a few Protestants around "to play with" you might want to understand just how that sounds to others ears.... Catholic Church is fine. It works, short and simple. I think Catholic Church is much nicer than Whore of Babylon that SOME Protestants call the Roman Rite, and I never do, nor think it is. Just pointing out that Catholic Church isn't that bad after all, Protestants don't agree with the self assesments of Catholic's nor should they be expected to. hyperdulia again
Call my Church by her name. I'm not a Roman Catholic, I'm a BYZANTINE CATHOLIC. I don't belong to the Catholic Church, but to the Byzantine Rite of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
jasJis
CC is fine with me. (Catholic Church) So is TTC (the True Church) and TC (The Church). As long as we can call Protestants: Prots or ncC (non-catholic Christian) or pC (protestant Christians). Is it a deal??? :deal:

"Roman" is optional... with so many splinter churches teaching heresy that wish to be called Catholic, it's much easier and quicker for all to say "Catholic Church" instead of "The Catholic Church which follows the Pope in Rome". Mulls... Please feel free to use Roman Catholic Church (Catholic Church) or Catholic Church (CC)... I'm pretty sure that we all will know which one your talking about. To many people "get offended" over petty stuff... they just need to lighten up. For example, a retarded kid working at a fast food place said "Merry Christmass" to a muslim, the muslim complained that she was offended, so the kid got fired... This happened in Pennsecola, I don't know which place. God Bless, Your Servant in Christ, ironmonk

We like protestants... it's just the anti-Catholic bigots that think they know more than we do about the Church that are waste everyone's time. They're just barking dogs along the Way that we should ignore. Your Servant, ironmonk

Is it a deal??? :deal: works for me, as long as we remember that not all protestants are in the same boat, something we have exhausted over and over again (well, i know i've tried to at least) hyper i didn't know you were byzantine, how is that different from roman? hyperdulia again
Catholic Church does not identify unity with Rome, CATHOLIC does that. Catholic Church identifies the Roman Rite and ONLY the Roman Rite.

hyperdulia again
I'm in the process of switching rites Mulls. There are some disciplinaary differences (married priests, standing during mass) calling bishops Eparchs, calling the Mass the Divine Liturgy, three hour worship services, icons rather than statues, married priests. But no difference in faith, morals, or deference paid to St Peter's Chair.
PedroX
Iron Monk, I think that Hyper and others have a valid point here. I can find no reference to "Catholic Church" prior to the reformation, and those references are usually from protestants who are slandering the church. The great anti-catholic slanders of the 19th century (Maria Monk, et al) made much of the "Romish" part of the faith and the hierarchy being a brainwashing dicatorship. I personally find it redundant, and the sign of those who are not willing to compromise anything for civility. It has nothing to do with an excessive PCness. peace...
