The Anglican Catholic Church

Has anyone ever heard of this branch of Anglicanism? They almost exactly resemble us in Church structure, and they celebrate the Mass, although their liturgy is from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer .

They are not in communion with Rome, from the looks of it, and they still hold the 39 Articles which explicitly deny the Pope has any power, and deny purgatory and transubstantiation;

However, does anyone know if the Holy See has made efforts to bring this denomination back to communion with itself?

Icthus,

From their website, they are younger than 30 years old. They also are rather small, and rather confused. They believe they still have valid holy orders and uninterrupted Apostolic Succession. Both of these last two beliefs are patently false. We should pray much for them as we do all "errant brothers" that they may someday find the unity of the Spirit that can only be found in the One True Church.

peace...

Ash Wednesday

I hate it when people call themselves "Catholic" when they're not..... That's a major pet peeve of mine. If you're not in communion with Rome under the Pope, you're not a Catholic. Christian, Anglican, yes, Catholic, no. :irate:

Bruce ,

Once again I pray that Christ softens your Heart.

"wanting in on action", please do not accuse of what you do not know. That insults a lot of Hard working Lay people who raise Millions of Dollars for charity. These charities are what keep a lot of communities going. The people referred to in this article were trying to make a buck for themselves diguised as a Catholic church.

May The Father ,The Son, and the Holy Spirit Bless you in your giving of information.

Foundsheep

But you have to understand that they would not consider themselves only thirty years old. Groups such as this consider themselves "continuing" Anglicans as opposed to the Episcopal Church in the USA. In their view they are the American extension of the Anglican branch of the Holy Catholic Church. I know that you would drastically disagree with their ecclesiology, but that aside some of these Anglican groups are fairly "catholic" with their interests in ancient liturgy and high Church sacramental theology.

Plus, if I understand the Catholic perspective on orders correctly, the only thing that invalidates the Anglican orders is an alteration of the words in the ordination liturgy. Is that right?

My guess is that, as time goes on, we will see floods of these Anglicans coming to Rome or Constantinople. Pretty soon the proliferation of Anglican denominations will get old and these movements will die out. Just a guess though...

Would they hold their allegiance to the authority of the Pope or to the Archbishop of Canterbury? It's an important issue! I was raised within the high Anglican church and would have had no hesitation in calling myself 'anglo catholic' but had no knowledge or understanding of what true apostolic succession meant. Having been challenged about that here at Phatmass, I find I can no longer use the term 'catholic' to describe myself.

I suspect you are right. I wonder how many more divisions within the Anglican church can occur and it still survive. I also think many will leave if Charles succeeds to the throne, since as king he will be the 'nominal' head of the Anglican church. So far the bishops have been very quiet on what the churches response will be to a man who has openly admitted adultery, is currently living with a woman without being married to her, and who has stated that he wishes to be known as 'defender of faiths', not 'defender of the faith' at his coronation!
