Sojourner
I am currently in RCIA, started in August. Last spring, I attended a parish reconciliation service with a friend, wrote out all my sins, and was absolved. I was not at the time actively pursuing membership in the Catholic Church, but I did honestly confess, and believed at the time that I was absolved. However, a friend told me shortly thereafter that I should not have taken part in the service because I was not Catholic at that point. (I was a baptized Protestant then; now, I'm not quite sure what I'd call myself since I haven't been confirmed) My question is this, do I need to go back through everything I confessed and do it all again at my first confession, or was I really and truly granted absolution of those sins then? cappie
I would say no, because in the RCIA baptised Christians of another denomination must make their confession before being received into the Catholic Church unlike non-Baptised who cannot receive a Christian Sacrament. If you are still unsure talk to the priest you know and if you are still unsure then confess again for the sake of your conscience.
