Well, almost all Protestants are fine with birth control and the death penalty, so to them it's not the same sort of thing at all.

When the Da Vinci code first came out the local Episcopal Church had a four week preaching serious on it. They considered it an attack on Christianity, and they taught on things like where the Bible came from/how it came together, early church history, etc. I was impressed.
