Carthusians... wow!

monk: I had a philosophy professor whose brother is a Carthusian and he would tell us how hardcore they are: Hair-shirts, sleep on stone, just a couple hours of talking a week, etc... Now, I have a friend, who providentially was in that phi class, who is finishing-up college sem and seriously considering entering. He is a deep, deep man of prayer.

I would recommend everone explore the link below just to learn more (even if they know they're not called), it's rather fascinating! If anyone knows more or has personal experience, please share! :

They are hardcore. I really don't think I am called to such seclusion. Then again, I'm not very familiar with how much time is spent as a community. That would intrigue me. To my understanding, they are very hermetical. Then again, I've only read about them from their website, and that isn't always everything. :) God bless those chosen to recieve this precious gift!

Have you seen the movie 'Into Great Silence'

I can't express how I felt as I saw that trailer ... the director says that they are the people who absolutely have no fear.

... more information from that website ... I think it's much better described there

Video over here

Every couple days I go to that website and watch the trailer. It's pretty cool. Okay, so I'm a dork.

There is a new book out called An Infinity of Little Hours which follows five men as they enter the Carthusians in England in the 1960s. I learned a lot about their way of life from this book and greatly admire them. I would recommend the book to anyone interested in learning about the Carthusians.

Actually, the Dominican Nuns (2nd Order Dominicans that is...) have never had a reform.

Thats quite an accomplishment, that means they haven't really strayed from thier original rules. Kudos to them!
