Leaving The Blood Out Until After Mass

Ya know... I hate to come off as some type of liturgy nazi, but I honestly think that one of the best things the Church has is it's unity. When you can walk into any Catholic church in the world, and experience the same thing--how amesome is that!? How could we possibly make a better statement of one faith, one religion, and one body than that?

That's why I believe obedience is important. Conformity is important. Unity in everything we do is important. When we deviate from the liturgy, we lose unity. I honestly believe that.

There are so many things a parish can do to make them fit in with local culture--to display their "uniqueness". Why must they do it in a way that changes the liturgy or doesn't conform to the GIRM?

Anyway. I'm working on a phatmass mission statement, and despite the conflict it might create, I'm going to mention that it is our mission to make people more aware of liturgical abuses. I might even devote a special section of the site to provide people with resources in case they are subject to these abuses.

Sounds like an excellent idea.

Here is the order of Mass according to the new GIRM from my diocese. It is an easy download:

As a Catholic I have a right to have a Mass done according the Church.

If a priest can't be faithful in such a little matter, how can he be faithful in a big matter? How can I trust him to counsel me, hear my confession, and keep me on the straight and narrow, if he can't follow simple directions?

Priests and liturgists get away with this stuff, becuase the people in the pew don't know any better.

hyperdulia again

It (the most percious and holy Blood) can also be poured down a special drain that leads into the ground...but it whould be done immediately...and these abuses, should be immediately reported!

:o

Is this true?!

Circle Master,

As you have requested, I have tried to relax and look for the humor in your posts. However, you can not make jokes about the Eucharist. It is not a sin to drink the Blood of Christ. It is His commandment and the vehicle of saving grace. I believe that another member (Anna) said it best "dis me and I'll get over it, dis the Eucharist and I draw my sword." Please keep your sarcasm to mundane objects and not the Precious Blood of our Lord and Savior.

peace...

I would be curious how you justify

Genesis 9:4

"Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

Leviticus 3:17

'It is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall not eat any fat or any blood.'"

and I am sorry that I mocked your Eucharist. I forget sometimes what subjects are touchy to those of the Catholic Church.

Circle Master,

I would have hoped that Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would be a "touchy subject" for all Christians, not just those of the Catholic Church (I know its repetitive, but there is not such thing as the Catholic Church).

You and Bruce both say that God can command the Israelites to form images to go along with the ark of the covenant and not break the commandment against making graven images. So, can not Christ command us to eat His body and drink His blood and not be breaking the commandments?

As Donna said, "Oh that they continue to let us paupers in!" The miracle of the Eucharist is such an amazing thing. Until you fully participate in it, you can not begin to understand. I pray that understanding comes upon you.

peace...

I don't believe this to be true.

Here's an excerpt from the GIRM reference Cmom provided:

"In addition, the Blood of the Lord is never to be poured into a drain—even the sacrarium; it must be consumed."

Actually, there is something to wash it down that goes to the ground. I asked when my friend dropped the Blood of Christ on her shirt. They had to take it there cause it goes to the ground. I even asked how they "washed" the cloth that "cleans" the chalice. It should never be poured in a drain, but sometimes you can't help it. Last year a kid threw up coming out of the communion line. :( I don't know the correct term for it, but Theotketos is right. There is a place where it goes in the ground. Where's Father? :cyclops:

Right. The water used to clean the chalices and stuff goes into the ground. What the reference above prohibits is the non-diluted Blood being poured directly into the ground. This shouldn't happen as the Blood should be consumed.

It's called a sacrarium.

True. The Blood of Christ MUST ALWAYS be consumed, never disposed of through a drain. I automatically thought of that drain.....what is it called? :book:
