dUSt
I attended mass today at a different parish than normal, and a few things struck me as odd. First of all, there was no crucifix. They had a resurrected Christ on a pole. Secondly, the first two reading were from Cycle A, and the Gospel reading was from Cycle C. Thirdly, they had a woman sitting next to the priest and deacon behind the altar. She was the one who read the first two readings, but I thought it was a little odd that she'd be sitting up there. Fourthly, they had light piano music to accompany the consecration. Lastly, instead of the chalices being emptied immediatly after communion, they were all set on a table near the altar until after mass. What made it uncomfortable is that after communion they showed a PowerPoint presentation about their "year in retrospect", with applause following--all the while with His blood exposed right out in the open. Anyway. Is it just me or do any of you think that some of this stuff is weird?
hyperdulia again
The excess Precious Blood should be consumed by an EEM or the Priest before mass is over.

Hazilloe
Jehova Witnesses believe Christ didn't die on a cross. They believe he died on a pole. Just thought that was a nice little coincidence. Sorry.
dUSt
Yeah, it's Catholic. It's where I usually go to confession because it's the closest to my house. I'm a parishioner at a different Church though and thought that my parish was bad--but in comparison--my parish is pretty orthodox. I think I'll e-mail them with my concerns and see if I get an answer.
foundsheep
You should do something. I asked my priest tonight about it and he says they should drink it and not leave it out, and as for Jesus being on a pole is so disrepectful. They might as well sign up for the watchtower. PedroX
dust, Everything you mentioned is an abuse and easily found in the GIRM. Powerpoint? That is so protestant mega-church! Of course, we sang "Go tell it on the Mountain" today, so I can't really say too much. Let us know if a letter writing campaign might help, but you should start by talking to the priest first. peace...

dUSt
Ya know... I hate to come off as some type of liturgy nazi, but I honestly think that one of the best things the Church has is it's unity. When you can walk into any Catholic church in the world, and experience the same thing--how amesome is that!? How could we possibly make a better statement of one faith, one religion, and one body than that? That's why I believe obedience is important. Conformity is important. Unity in everything we do is important. When we deviate from the liturgy, we lose unity. I honestly believe that. There are so many things a parish can do to make them fit in with local culture--to display their "uniqueness". Why must they do it in a way that changes the liturgy or doesn't conform to the GIRM? Anyway. I'm working on a phatmass mission statement, and despite the conflict it might create, I'm going to mention that it is our mission to make people more aware of liturgical abuses. I might even devote a special section of the site to provide people with resources in case they are subject to these abuses.
PedroX
Hyper and Sojourner, Its not that I dislike "Go Tell it" its just that its a slightly silly protestant song. Although, I do love going from the end of the verse into the chorus, you know where you go real low, and swoop up high (like you're climbin' the mountain?) And Hyper, since I'm sure the song came from somewhere down south of the Mason-Dixon, I'm not surprised you love it. Lol. peace...
CatholicAndFanatical
nice Idea Dust, gives me something to do, ill go snoop out the abusers and call them on it. I agree that it is amesome how unified we are, during Mass knowing that the Catholic Church down the street or in the next town or even the other side of the world is/was listening to the exact same readings and homily topic as I am. Cant get anymore Universal than that. CatholicAndFanatical
Theoketos
The excess Precious Blood should be consumed by an EEM or the Priest before mass is over. It (the most percious and holy Blood) can also be poured down a special drain that leads into the ground...but it whould be done immediately...and these abuses, should be immediately reported!
