zwergel88
Okay, I have a question. Lets look at the facts. Republicans are considered the "right" Democrats are considered the "left" Communism is on the "left" From that we can infer that being a democrat makes one closer to being a communist (I'm a democrat and not a communist but that's just the way politics works) The color of Communism is red. So my question is: Why are the red states Republican and the blue states Democrat? I don't get it. They should switch it. Anyway, as it stands now, I live in a blue state. How about we just don't use it as one of the colors at all?
jiyoung
I'm in a blue state...California, one of the bluest states of all -_-; Interestingly enough, though, my old hometown Garden Grove was rated one of the most conservative cities in the state. Socrates
Okay, I have a question. Lets look at the facts.
Definitely agree with you that being a Democrat is closer to being a Communist And I've kinda felt the same way, as (during the Cold War, at least) calling someone "red" always meant Communist. However, this "red state/blue state" terminology just goes back to the 2000 presidential elections, in which one of the T.V. news stations showed a map of the U.S. after the elections in which states which went for Bush in the election were colored red, and those that went for Gore were colored blue. (I think these colors were totally arbitrary, no deep meaning to them.) This map and its supposed implications were since much discussed in the media, and the terms "red state" and "blue state" entered into common socio-political parlance. (btw - when the map is divided according to counties, rather than states, it gets even more interesting - the "blue" area gets much smaller - concentrated largely in urbanized areas.) zwergel88
very interesting. Thank you for the history of that. I definately think the media was trying to pull one over on people.
