Guest Rick
The bible clearly states that talking to the dead is wrong, why do Catholics pray to saints and other dead people?
Pontifex
In the Bible, that is, in the Bible that was not tampered with in the 15th century, we find in the book of Maccabees examples of praying for the deceased and asking for their intercession. Also, if I do recall correctly, Jesus spoke with certain Saints on the Mountain of his transfiguration. Certainly, communicating with the dead through Ouija boards, cards and other garbage is wrong. The communion of saints is nothing like this. In the same way that I can ask you or any other phatmasser to pray for me, I can ask those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith to pray for me as well. And personally I would rather ask for the intercession of the Mother of Jesus than rely on someone else here. The scriptures also tell us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, and this cloud of witnesses longs for us to be united with God in Heaven. Unlike Ouija board garbage, asking the Saints to pray for us is always directed toward union with our Lord Jesus. The convo ends there. Peace, Fr.
