Fulton Sheen Warrior

I've been on www.fisheaters.com to hear recordings of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and can't seem to figure them out.
I looked at their "About us" section, and they say they beleive Pope Benedict XVI is the legitimate successor to St. Peter, yet they seem highly critical of the Church.

My question is, Should I steer clear of this site?

Only you can answer this question. If the behavior that you describe bothers you or could harm your faith then steer clear.

otoh, if you find humor in some of their silliness and enjoy the discussions I see no harm.

Its fruits are varied. They have alot of great stuff, but their membership is varied- indult, SSPX, indpendent, sedevacantist, etc. So alot of it you have to disregard or discern with...

Visit with caution. They have some really great resources there, but do not necesarily take everything they say as fact. They are highly critical of the post-Vatican II Church. As Brendan said, they have a varied group of members, which do include those members who do not believe that the current Pope is the true successor of St. Peter.

As well, as OLAM Dad said, if you feel uncomfortable about the content, I would stay away.

Like others said, discern when you are there, just as if you were to visit a baptist or an athiest website.

There are other places to get the Fulton Sheen stuff...

There is really too much malice over there for much fruit to bear.

OMGOSH! It a CATHOLIC website, not a heretcial website. The webstie itself is fine, but stay clear of the Sede v. SSPX v. Indult Debate Forum on the board.

If you think that fact (though often exaggerated) is malice, then I guess you're right, Fisheaters is full of malice.

Hi, FultonSheenWarrior! I run the Fish Eaters Website so can let you know what the angle is: the site itself is set up to teach Catholics how to practice Catholicism according to the 1962 Missal and calendar (this is what the Being Catholic section is about). The site, then, is useful for anyone who worships in that way, whether they attend Masses offered by indult, Masses offered by the S.S.P.X., or whatever.

The discussion forum is where things can get contentious. There, all trads are welcome, with rules in place designed to segregate the really heated stuff.

Catholics who don't worship in the traditional way can still get a lot out of the Being Catholic section of the site. They'd just have to know that the Sacramental rites described are those used in 1962 and now by trads, that Scripture references are to the Douay (with the Septuagint Psalm numbering), and that liturgical dates refer to the 1962 Calendar.

Hope this helps :)

This was brought up in a thread that got locked and banished to the "Lame Board," but unfortunately, I think it says alot about whether or not Fisheaters.com is "good."

http://www.fisheaters.com/jpiispeech.html?insight=Jesus

(This was linked to by a "fisheater" and the link was deleted, so mods feel free to delete the link - I just felt it is very relevent to this issue.)

This is a "fun" page on Fisheaters.com which mocks his Holiness, the late Pope John Paul II. One types in any word, and a lot of randomly-generated nonsense phrases is produced, which the page mockingly calls the "great Catholic insight" of Pope John Paul II.

Such sophomoric and pointless mockery of a deceased Supreme Pontiff of the Church certainly has no place on a Catholic website!

I fail to see how any serious Catholic could possibly justify such blatantly disrespectful carp.

And just what might Catholics get out of your "John Paul II Randomly Says" page??

Socrates, you must not have read many of John Paul II's writings if you fail to see the humor in that. He famously used too many words and certain phrases. Don't lose your sense of humor, man.
