Guest Creepy
One more question: Is there Truth outside the Bible? I think there is, that God is truth and that He cannot be completely contained in a book, and so God wants us to know Him completely and that the Bible is a launching off point to teach us about God, but it can't show us God completely because it's only a part of Him. Is this wrong? What does the Church teach about extrabiblical revelation (i know it's not equivalent to the Bible, but can you believe stuff about God that's not in the Bible)? And what about writings of the Saints and experiences that St. Theresa of Avila or St. Faustina have had with seeing a physicial Christ and Him telling them to write things down, for example, establishing the Divine Mercy Prayer. Is that considered extrabiblical? Is all Church doctrine based on interpretation of the Bible or is there some "new revelation" that God can give the Church? I'm confused! Pio Nono
JMJ 4/30 - Third Sunday of Easter You're right - God cannot be contained in a book. God cannot be contained, being infinite. However, the Church has always taught that everything necessary for salvation can be found in Scripture. As for what you describe as "extra-Biblical revelation," the Church calls this "private revelation" and no Christian is bound to believe it. For instance, if you choose not to believe in Lourdes or Fatima, it won't affect your salvation in any adverse way. The fullest revelation which God has given to the Church is found in the person of Jesus Christ, whom the Church continues to expose to us. No other revelation can be given because God has said everything He wanted to in Christ. I hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
