What Are You Reading?

This book is sooooo hard. For me anyways. It is taking me about 5 times longer to read than the last book I read.
But part of that is my unfamiliarity with the names and places in the OT and Egypt, Babylon, Assyria, Persia. I just made it to the Greece section, so the reading is getting slightly easier. It is definitely a good book. Just hard.

anyone reading a good fiction or nonfiction?
[/quote]
Well, I'm enjoying Dostoevsky incredibly right now. If you like fiction with deep philosophical underpinnings, he's great. I'm classing "Crime and Punishment" as one of the most perfect books ever written right now.

Oh yeah, and what's "Lord of the Elves and Eldils?"

It's a really great look at the philosophy, writing styles, and religion of Tolkien and CS Lewis... One of the first to be written on the subject, actually. It was first published in the '70s and is now being reprinted by Ignatius Press. :D:

I switched it up with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"....and I can't stand it one bit. :pinch:

I found the Scarlet Letter rather boring and uninteresting...takes a stab at organized religion too.

I completely lost faith in Ayn Rand's cold capitalistic world..., that was my third time trying to read that book.

Sirach from the Bible and As I Lay Dying from William Faulkner.

I don't mind stabs at Puritanism. I liked the book. If you can get past the rather dull characters, Nathaniel Hawthone is worth reading just for all the symbolism he uses to get a point across very subtly. It usually takes two readings, for me at least, to pick up all that though.
