What do you all know about this place? Would you recommend it?

I'm looking at college seminaries just in case I don't get accepted to the one that I wish to go to. I think I might choose this one if I don't get accept to St. John Vianney College Seminary.

Yours in Christ,

Ed. L

I don't understand that.

How would you not get accepted? We only have one seminary so its Kenrick or Kenrick or Kenrick...

Or Aquinas Institute in midtown with the Dominicans and Resurrectionists. :topsy:

Rev, I've only heard good things about Josephinum. I bet if you put in a search for you, you'd come up with threads about it.

I think there is a certain number of "hours" they have to take at Kenrick. But if there are scheduling conflicts/topic of interest, then a student at one can freely go to the other institution. But we rarely get Kenrick students. We get Jesuit scholastics though.

So should one consider this seminary over another?

Our seven foot, two inch pastor in Berea was a graduate of this seminary. One cool dude, and quite orthodox.

Blessings,

Are you referring to St. John Vianney minor seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN? If so, GO (if at all possible)!!! SJV under Fr. Bill Baer is A M A Z I N G ! As a Catholic Studies/Latin major at UST and a study abroad student in Rome with 11 sjv'ers, I have spent much time with the seminarians. Their formation is THE standard in excellence! In fact, without their spiritual and intellectual witness, I don't think I'd be scheduled to enter the convent right now! Other possibilities?... I can tell you that John Carroll in Ohio is definitely somewhere to shun. However, major Studies in Rome at Santa Croce, the Angelicum, and the Greg are reliable -stay away from San Anselmo if you're devoted to orthodoxy! Of course, your bishop will have the final say.

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S on answering God's call to discern the religious life in seminary.

The Pontifical College Josephium is exceptional. I have had the honor to attend two "live-in" weekends there. All the college rooms are in the same building with a nice chapel in the middle. The priests live in the same building with the college students so they are very accessible. The theoligate is very similar. Like all seminaries there is alot of prayer and Eucharisitc devotion. I enjoyed their library and the seminary's location. The impression I recieved is that the seminary is very orthodox. If my vocation was the diocescan priesthood, I would absolutley go there.

Peace be with you all,

Imprimatur

usually your bishop or vocations director will tell you where you are going (sometimes they do give an option)

To reject someone from a college seminary would necessitate that there is something fairly serious because at that point you have 8 years of seminary ahead of you. That is a lot of formation that will happen.
