Justput your own hands together and pray.
Totus Tuus
I don't hold hands when I'm at a parish where everyone else does, I just close my eyes and fold my hands. But my own parish doesn't hold hands.
Lena
everyone in my home parish holds hands, but usually only as a family. I cant imagine not holding hands during the Our Father, its a sign of unity. In the parish here in EL, everyone holds hands, even the people next to you that you don't know....and we all have to stand up and greet one another and shake hands before Mass starts, like "hey how ya doing?". it makes sense since its a student parish, but its still kinda.....different. Americans seldom hold hands with family members (besides spouses) and strangers. Really the only public time I can think of when people are holding hands around me is at Mass, during the Our Father. Holy Communion is our sign of unity.
jeffpugh
Well, I actually read all seven pages... that's exciting. Anyways, I immediately voted that I avoid holding hands. Doesn't really seem right. My youth ministry does it, but I respectively don't do it. It's not our place. The Our Father is to be done in Union with Christ, and the unity of the congregation comes in the Eucharist. We don't need to add external signs. Especially if it's not in the rubric. Mercy me
Now I remember the debate that happened when this was pulmogated. The US bishops did not prescribe a possition for the laity. Sorry for my error.
