Did you abstain from meat for religious reasons yesterday?

Last night the diocese hosted a buffet-style meal for the diocesan WYD volunteers. One of my friends was worried because there was a little bit of chicken in one of the main dishes. Another friend (a guy) complained that there wasn't enough meat, and said (probably humorously) that he'd gladly perform some act of charity if he could eat some meat. So then I told them that, since it was in the octave of Easter, it was a solemn feast, and we are forbidden to abstain for religious reasons. :)

There was supposed to be a poll part... it doesn't seem to be working, though... dunno

No, solemn is like "big and important." On Feast days you can FEAST!! :D:

Especially solemnities. Like when St. Joseph's falls on a Friday during lent, you don't abstain from meat then.

I abstained only because I had surgery yesterday (I had wisdom teeth pulled) and the only thing I could have for lunch was a McDonald's chocolate shake and for dinner I was only able to eat macaroni and coagulated milk (which was really good  )

I might add that Tertullian wrote something against people who fasted on Sundays...and since a solemnity is as high as a Sunday...

well hell. Nice of them to tell the rank and file about it.

Of course, who abstains nowadays anyway...no point telling people they don't have to if they already don't. I went ahead and didn't have meat. SHOOT.
