Sojourner
So Sunday morning, I dragged myself out of bed (after having been up late for Easter Vigil the night before) and went to the 8 a.m. Easter Mass with a friend. We were sitting in the back of the church when about a quarter of the way through when a young couple came in with their little boy. I'm guessing he was about 3, and he looked about like I felt -- like it was awfully early on a Sunday morning to be at church. He was just kinda looking around, quietly taking it all in. He was very cute ... curly hair, big eyes, the works, not bothering anyone. Then I watched as his mother slipped him four blue Peeps. My friend and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes because we knew what was coming ... sure enough, within about 10 minutes the quiet, just awakened little boy started fussing and trying to run around on the pew. On the plus side, he did take the time to smile at me and stick out his very blue tongue. Sugar + kid + Easter Sunday = very silly parents
shortnun
It's amazing how capable little kids are of absorbing their surroundings.... the beauty of the Mass.... and the sugar that is Peeps.
stbernardLT
When my kids woke up easter morning before I could stop them they got all hopped up on jelly beans. Church was very interesting to say the least. Sitting in very crowded church with four children under the age of four all hopped up on jelly beans was an easter to remember. I had to break up a couple of gang fights. Oh yeah, my three year old just can;t figure out why I would eat Jesus.
Thy Geekdom Come
We went to Easter Sunday Mass and the family in front of us (eight kids, including one in the womb) was nuts! It was funny, though...one kid started lecturing another on his St. Anthony medal, trying to teach him. The little girl tried to pull her dress over her brother's head and, when she couldn't do it, pulled it over her own head. During the Consecration, a little girl behind us went under our pew and grabbed Jennie's foot. Then during Communion, a mother a few rows up picked up her daughter and the shoe fell off and the little girl goes, "my shooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" I love kids. I have a lot more appreciation for my parents now that I'm old enough to know what a challenge it is to corral kids during church. :
franciscanheart
I rarely get to see all the children on Easter. My parish sends an EMHC up to the loft so that we don't have to try to push our way through the back of the church to get to communion before they forget us. All I get to see is the festival brass reading their car magazines and pointing out new lawn gadgets to each other.
qfnol31
When my old parish Priest told people not to bring Cheerios into Mass there was almost a schism!

I'd prefer cheerios

I once babysat for my friends' 1.5-year-old while they were out of town for the weekend and took her to church with me. Goldfish kept her from going too crazy. homeschoolmom
The little boy (three maybe four years old) ahead of us took the bottom of his undershirt and lifted it up and over his face and head. He wore it like that for a minute or so until his mom noticed. It was funny.
