track2004
I really like that movie, in part because it makes my head hurt, in part because I get it. Each time I watch it I get new things out of it, new views, new concepts, new questions. The racier parts may be critisized, but they were necessary for the film because that is how Donny dealt with it and if he didn't swear and fall in love he wouldn't be Donny. It is a character flaw, but we appreciate him because of those things because we share those things with him.
CrossCuT
The love scene with Gretchen (which did not show anything further then the kissing) was there, I believe, to show the process of Donnie understanding what love is. Of course we as catholics would not define love as the physical act of sex, but the unconditional and self giving love shared between two people. But in the movie it was a representation to show he had discovered and now understood what love was, thus giving him a reason he should save the world; to sacrifice himself for something so special and beautiful. He can die because he understands that the loss of his life is not the end; God and love all exsist on the other side, and there IS a meaning to life. Maybe the meaning to live is to die, but thats ok because there are worse things that could happen.
