franciscanheart
If you have just given a confession and the priest starts talking to you as if you were ... not in confession ... should you say something? Aren't there specific procedures that are supposed to be followed in the confessional? If the priest carries on a conversation not at all relating to your confession because he knows you from... say... youth group... and he never ties it back (just wants to chat)... what do you do? If his boss, the pastor, doesn't say anything, can you go to the bishop? Is this a big deal? The whole situation makes me very uncomfortable. Can anything cause a confession to be invalid? cappie
If a priest wants to discuss something not pertinent to the confession he really should do it after the confession if at all. I did it once and forgot the absolution so have never discussed anything again, except the confession. If someone was to ask me a question if it did not have anything to do with the confession I would answer after the confession and absolution is completed. Obviously if it was relevant to the confession I would answer the question before completing the confession It would not invalidate the confession unless he forgot the absolution
