Brother Adam
This is the first Holy Week since becoming Catholic that Teresa and I will be able to spend in one place and actually really participate in all of the liturgies and going on's. I'm really excited. Last year was so crazy we were barely able to calm down and participate in our confirmations prayerfully and calmly.

Era Might
Do they have Tenebrae at Steubenville? Check it out if they do (it's on Wednesday, and commemorates the betrayal of Judas). It's pretty long and can get a little monotonus, so be prepared... Edited April 10, 2006 by Era Might

MilesChristi
I'm definitely excited about Holy Week. These are my favorite days out of the entire year. We get to commemorate and experience the greatest events which have ever taken place in the history of creation. Each year the Church gives us this awesome opportunity to recall what Christ chose to do so that poor, ungrateful sinners like me might yet be able to live with Him forever in the Father's house. When Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
jezic
yes. A little note. ---- April 9, 2006 And so now we embark down the road to Calvary, watching as it were, at a distance as Jesus offers himself to the Father in atonement for our sins. We will journey to the foot of the cross on Good Friday and the mystery of the Sepulchre on Saturday. We will share in the light of the Resurrection, transformation in love. This time, as the height of the liturgical year, should become for us the height of our year and our life as well. We should take the time to grow close to Christ and share in his sufferings, but also in his joy and in his love. These are the most holy days on the Roman Calendar. They recount the central mystery of our salvation. Do we treat them as such? It seems like it would be a sad time. Jesus is bearing the burdens of our sin, at a terrible price. Yet it is the triumph of love. He suffers because he loves so much. It is almost joyful because this is the point of the construction of God’s new kingdom. It is the declaration of the supremacy of love. We are called to enter into the very heart of Christ, which will expire for us and be pierced by the end of a spear. And so today we have the mystery of the crowd. In our Palm Sunday Mass, we welcome Christ as the king and a short while later cry out “Crucify Him!” William Shakespeare captures the same feeling in his play, Julius Caesar. The crowd will not make up its own mind, but rather listens to the influential voices of those in power. It brings to the forefront the disorder of the Pharisees who seek power and prestige. God can act, but he should do it through them, the “holy” ones. The people of Jerusalem who did not seek the truth were caught in this action and joined the Pharisees in the fulfillment of God’s plan. Our society today is astoundingly similar. There are those who know the truth and yet are silent in fear and disbelief. Others will follow the media or someone important. We miss the reality of Christ’s coming to us in the Eucharist. It is as if we can draw a parallel to the reception of the Eucharist. Many will say “Amen” and welcome him in and then on Monday seek the death of Christ. They miss the full impact of their declaration and do not realize that they are bound to the ways of sin. This crowd cries out for the Blood of Christ today because they cannot accept that this is the plan that God would have taken for their salvation. God basically didn’t fit into their box and so it could not have been from him. This is the wrong idea. The people of Israel were missing the fullness again. Yet there is a mystery here because soon after he has risen, the talk of the Resurrection is then the buzz of the town. They knew something was up with Jesus but they refused to allow themselves to believe it. The people had not recognized the truth. They changed their mind three times in a few days. The truth is eternal. (Literally as Jesus says in the Gospel of John, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”) They fail to recognize it. Often in our lives these actions of God can remain hidden in similar fashion. We must pray that we do not fall into the same trap and miss what God is doing in our lives. He longs to show us. He longs to open our eyes and yet there are many that live on in ignorance. This day will live forever in the shadow of Good Friday and the sunrise of Easter Morning. It is only a small part in God’s plan of salvation. It is important, no doubt, but it is not the fullness, not yet. Jesus was coming to the city of “Heaven” (as the Jews thought of it, and it is described in the Old Testament) to die. There is somewhat of a paradox because one cannot die in Heaven. This theme is present, the contrast between Jerusalem as a physical place and Jerusalem as a metaphorical reality. We must continue to walk now with Christ and accompany him on this journey to the cross where at least we will see his victory. Yes, the cross is a victory. It is the very throne of God. The crown that drips with blood is transformed as well. There is no greater crown that those thorns. What seems like defeat is the greatest triumph. It is but one example of the Transformation that all of Creation finds in Christ. He makes all things new. ---- just something i wrote today. This seemed like a good place to share it. Snarf
This should be the most difficult and arduous week of the year. Until the end of the Easter Vigil, I can't think of anything besides the fact that my brothers and sisters and I were the ones who nailed Christ to the wood. Christ was fully prescient of the glory of the Resurrection when He entered Jerusalem, yet He prayed while sweating blood that He not have to suffer the crucifixion. Yet, He did it, and there is no other reason for this besides us.
