Rebirth flame
hey, alot of people i talk to at my high school always ask me why reconciliation is important. they think that if you are sorry for your sins, you don't need to confess them to a priest. I disagree. I know that if you are in a state of mortal sin, you are cut off "completely" from communicating w/ God, but i honestly can't defend myself very well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.
Winchester
I would ask them why Christ gave only such power to Peter and, later, the Apostles, if He intended us to not involve Priests...
BLAZEr
Mortal sin doesn't make it impossible to "communicate" with God, it ruptures "communion" with God. These are not the same thing. Communion implies a oneness, an indwelling of one in the other, in other words, you in God and God in your heart. You can still talk to God, that's why you can be sorry and confess. cappie
Penance or reconciliation is one of the seven sacraments of the Church is described in the Church's Code of Canon Law: "In the sacrament of penance the faithful, confessing their sins to a legitimate minister, being sorry for them, and at the same time proposing to reform, obtain from God the forgiveness of sins committed after baptism through absolution imparted by the same minister; and they likewise are reconciled with the church which they have wounded by sinning." Can 959. It is the teaching of the Church that "individual and integral confession and absolution constitues the only ordinary way by which the faithful person who is aware of serious sin is reconciled with God and the Church;only physical or moral impossibility excuses the person from confession of this type." Can 960 The confessor acts as judge and healer in the sacrament. It is true that only serious sins have to be confessed, however, the priest can advise people and impart sacramental grace in the prayer of absolution which helps us in living a spiritual life ,finding direction and growing in Grace. I think is is sad when people cannot take responsability for their actions by going to confession to receive advice and Grace to live the Christian life.
