fundy_mental
Someone a tech today asked me why self gratification is a sin and I could only get out "it just is" which didn't go down so well as you can imagine! I need a quick to the point reason so hopefully I can work it into conversation next time I see him. Thanks!! Fundy
Pio Nono
JMJ 4/6 - Fifth Thursday of Lent fundy_mental, Good question. Ultimately, according to Augustine, sin is a curvatus in se - turning in upon one's self. Sin refuses to reach out to the other, but instead selfishly bottles one up in himself. I think it's pretty clear that actions like masturbation don't cause someone to go out of himself, but rather turn more deeply in upon himself. Hope this helps. phatcatholic
in other words, self-gratification is selfish, and selfishness is a sin that contradicts the life of charity that we are all called to live.
