prose
I have seen many Churches without holy water during lent. My old priest explained it to me once, but I can't remember what he said Couldn't have been too striking.

DemonSlayer
We don't normally have holy water in the fonts during Lent.
jasJis
Ask the priest why it isn't there. I wouldn't classify it as an 'abuse', but it isn't the best thing to do. The Catholic Church relates biblical ideas with symbols. Removing the holy water does two things. For one, it symbolizes the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert before he began his ministry. Lent is 40 days before Easter, which is symbolically awaiting the coming of Resurection of Jesus which fulfils God's promise and reminds us that Catholics should renew their ministry to the world. It also symbolizes self sacrifice and mortification because you usually have to put a little effort into finding where they keep Holy Water. There are many other symbolic coorelations, but obviously, you'all have been sleeping during the sermons and readings... But Holy Water is effective and should be available 24/7/52/365 (On Feb. 29th there is NEVER any Holy Water as it's not really a day).
