Holy Water during Lent

A local church put a huge rock in their holy water bowl..... :idontknow: Is this normal? Is it because of Lent?

It's probably for Lent, but it's not "normal" in that sense that it isn't litrugical norm to do so. Just one of those things people do, I guess. :idontknow:

The rock bit is over the top, but at my home parish they always removed the holy water during Holy Week (or maybe just the Triduum?), and at the parish I'm attending here at school the holy water's been missing since Ash Wednesday. Nobody's ever explained it to me.

Yeah, holy water missing isn't exactly kosher... it is just people getting 'creative' with the liturgical season. Demand it back. It is a sacramental and should be avaliable 24/7/365 no matter what...

We don't have it here in Grinnell either. They stole it during Ash Wed. We had it at home still, at least.

That used to happen at my parish, but hasn't in a long time... :) I'm happy to see a positive trend in my parish... but then, they do take steps backwards as well... like haveing the eomhc come up into the sanctuary before the priest receives... after years of doing it "right after he consumes the host, but right before he drinks from the chalice"

It is an abuse. Holy water is to be available to the faithful.

CCC #1668 "Sacramentals are instituted for the sanctification of certain ministries of the Church, certain states of life, a great variety of circumstances in Christian life, and the use of many things helpful to man. In accordance with bishops' pastoral decisions, they can also respond to the needs, culture, and special history of the Christian people of a particular region or time. They always include a prayer, often accompanied by a specific sign, such as the laying on of hands, the sign of the cross, or the sprinkling of holy water (which recalls Baptism)."

Cow of Shame

I've never been in a Catholic church that had holy water in the fonts at entrances during Lent...

I've seen the 'rock' thing in a couple before, too.
