Brother Adam
St. Thomas More is not ashamed of me, he is ashamed of you for going with the flow and supporting the NO abuses and Vatican II Document misinterpretations!
There you see Tommy, you just went off spouting ignorance again without even considering the ramifications of your actions. Tsk. You played right into my hand. It's okay, I forgive you, but you might not forgive yourself. But first let us consider the terminology you are using, because while I could be wrong, I don't think you even understand it. There are abuses, rather, liturgical abuses that take place in some masses. These abuses are outside what the Catholic Church, let by Pope Benedict XVI and the Bishops have instructed to take place at mass. There is a good text called "Liturgical Abuses" to discover what the most common ones are. Now, these abuses are a shame no doubt, but that is why, like St. More, St. John of the Cross, St. Therese, and all the other saints, we pray for the Church, and remain members of the Church. It is directly contrary to scripture to think that you have the right to "make your own rules". You do not know best. The Magisterium of the Catholic Church knows best. If you don't believe that, you are not Catholic. If you believe the SSPX has it "figured out" you are not Catholic. But the growth is more than worth it. But I don't think those "liturgical abuses" are what you mean. I think you believe that there are actual problems with the NO mass, in its language, structure, and meaning. But, as it is, I'm doubting you've read any liturgical texts of any signifigance, such as "Spirit of the Liturgy", the "History and Future of the Roman Liturgy", "Looking at the Liturgy", or any number of liturgical documents issued by the Holy Roman Catholic Church since 1962. If I'm wrong, and you have, then let's talk about them. I'm sure Cam would be happy to help as well. It really won't be difficult to correct your misunderstandings if you will simply be open to being honest. See, that's what made me a Catholic. Intellectual honesty. It's beaver dam hard, and in order to win, you have to lose, and admit what you thought was right, actually isn't. Ah, but see, here is what really gets me. "The Vatican II Document". Now, I posed a question to you earlier, probing to see what you actually knew, and you ignored me. I can't help but to think all you have is a few "posts" maybe an essay or two that you read on a schismatic website. I doubt you know little, if anything about the text, language, or intent of the Second Vatican Council. Of course, I doubt that you even know much about St. Pius X, God rest his soul. Have you read his biography? Did you study the Modernist heresy, where it came from, how it formed, and how the Church defeated it? If you did, you would certianly know that the Modernism St. Pius X fought is nothing in comparision to the actions of the same said Church later in the Council and today. It really is sad that you have such a Protestant attitude, because you have the fire in you to make a great Catholic. But if you go on insisting that "the Church had it right at one time, but has it wrong now" you will continue to fall in line with the Protestants, who, 400 years ago insisted the same thing. That "the Church had it right at one time, but has it wrong now." Edited March 28, 2006 by Brother Adam
Ash Wednesday
Ok, now I didn't read all 4 pages of this thread, but I'm slightly confused...how did a topic entitled "First Aniversary of JPII's death" devolve into another debate about NO vs. Tridintine Masses??????? And what's wrong with praying for the soul of someone???
I think some of the statements were edited out so you might not be getting the whole picture of what's been said -- it was more than suggesting one pray for a soul. Let's just say they were very disrespectful comments. Back to John Paul the Great!

Paladin
Ick. You can hardly post about a pope these days without the conversation turning into RadTrad v. Conservative argument. St. Thomas More, Pope St. Pius X, and Pope John Paul the Great would all be disappointed. You wanna debate, go do it in the debate threads. Not here.
