rkwright
ugh hopefully this thread doesn't turn into another SSPX thread.... it was so good and informative! I'm glad theotokos put up Texas A&M! I'm currently attending and the faith community here is incredible! We have about 11,000 Catholics on campus and around 6,000 that are very active (do something more than just sunday mass) in the Church. We have something that one could do every single weeknight, all through the semester. I also heard a random fact this week while I was on a retreat... not sure where I could check it out... but... Texas A&M sends the second most seminarians (behind FUS) in the nation.... So, a large public school, with outstanding traditions, and a very strong Catholic group! PS: Theotokos... I may be in touch with you about UD grad work within the next year or so! I'm interested and have called the admissions office a few times about issues... Brother Adam
Your an odd fellow Brother Adam, such spite, anger, hostility toward someone honestly seeking the truth, I wonder if you rant about being schismatic and hating the church to all the protestant kids at FUS or the Gidieons that come twice a year? FUS has a lot of Crucifixs, rosarys, NO Masses, and Religious walking around, yea ok, they also have no Tridentine Mass, few Priests ordained with the old rite, "Catholic" history teachers that say "Catholics can join the masons now if they want" and "ugh Catholics and there crazy mason theories", people showing up to mass in shorts, pajamas, flipflops, hats, tanktops, a Marian Priest that refers to confession as a spiritual diaper change, Anglican Priestess invited to talk about Marian Dogma, students that dont even know there is a latin Mass, Girls that wear "booty" shorts, and sports bras, Protestant "Lords days" singalongs on Saturday where everyone gets together plays guitar and shares symbolic wine and bread, false speaking in tounges, rejection of tradition, and it just goes on and on. Yes alot of the people at FUS are good and nice and the many Rosaries said save souls, but there is just so much wrong with that place, to call it Catholic is an insult to the Church. BTW, who are you Brother Adam, im trying to place you.
yes, like I said, we are Protestant here, but don't tell others. Our plan to take over the world will be thwarted. And Protestants, almost always have an excuse. The SSPX does not. And you are mistaking anger and spite. I'm not angry or spiteful, but you are right. I am very hostile towards the SSPX. I've seen them keep Protestants from the Catholic Church more than once. On Pilgrimage
If it matters at all -- I, the author of this thread, would prefer not to see it hijacked into an SSPX thread. I, the one seeking information about orthodox colleges, have no desire to learn about colleges maintained by the SSPX. The SSPX are not "orthodox," because they fancy themselves more orthodox than the pope. I would never go to one of their colleges, even if it were the last college on the planet. With that said. FUS? Protestant?

nowak.chris

lol. I walked past a group of kids waiting for a tour and said "get out while you still can. Run away!" They looked at my like I was an alien. Poor, poor children.
Did something bad happen with Franciscan U? The reason I'm not sure about going there is safety -- there's a lot of crime in that area and students have been killed in that area. Otherwise, I thought it was a fairly orthodox school and everything.

Students have been KILLED there?! *takes back enrollment*
from a once and future, quasi-townie, As was mentioned the 1999 (which so few students even know about...), were a fluke. Ask a prof. where to live if you're staying off campus, they know the streets. Don't move into a house that the landlord just bought, steubie moves , lots of 'em. Little , but you don't want to be the ones who "took" the house from local addicts... (RIP Brian and Aaron) funny walking around 2,3,4 am to adoration at St. Pete's (downtown) to just round LaBelle (aka the hill) I never saw anything violent.... OK wouldn't recomend it, especially for the ladies, but I know the area and what streets are "safe". again, for the ladies considering FUS, you don't want Padua, unless they changed the shuttle schedule, since the fall it runs every few hours, and no side walk up. If you don't like chapel masses (please let them build a new one...), St. Pete's downtown is much more 'traditional', make that by the book N.O. It is regrettable that there is so little opportunity to get to a Latin Mass, but as long as were talking other than the Missa Normativa (sp?) there's a Byzantine parish across the river. (greek, it's not Latin, but its better than English). Oh, and if your not charismatic, it would be worth your while to look into the movement, to see just what all the "Protestant" services are. They and the households saved FUS, from a big party school (my dad drove from Dayton, on the other side of the state) to a theological powerhouse. chris Tarcisus, if you want to have a throw down about the Marians, let's go... Snarf
What about College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA? I was impressed with it and applied/was accepted, but I really don't know much about it's Catholicity by the board's standards.

Tindomiel
Steubenville Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 132. The number of murders and homicides was 1. The violent crime rate was 6.7 per 1,000 people. That's definitely a lot lower then Shreveport where I was going to school.
Last year a college student at Colby in my old town was killed. That's such a rare thing around here, it was the biggest news in town for over a year. That by itself wouldn't make me reject Colby (although the schools incredibly secular attitude would.) It was just a fluke, and if things are the same in Steubenville, I'd feel a lot safer there than in, say NYC or something.
