Good Catholic Colleges

On Pilgrimage

Right now, I'm going to a public college (because it's inexpensive), but my plan is to transfer to a Catholic college after the first year or two. I'm looking for good, orthodox Catholic colleges. I live in Ohio, so Ohio colleges might be preferable (and yes, I am aware of Franciscan University; I live in the Diocese of Steubenville).

The list of orthodox Catholic colleges in this country is, unfortunately, rather short. Other than Steubie U I don't know of any others in Ohio.

Christendom College, Ave Maria, and Thomas Aquinas are also fine schools. There is another one in New Hampshire but I can't remember its name at the moment.

Basically your other orthodox options are

University of Dallas
Bendictine College (the cheapest and propbably closest to you)
Christendom College
Thomas Aquinas College (TAC)

I post in order of size, UD has 1500 undergrad.

And you might find other Colleges with really good Catholic Student Centers.

Texas A&M
Kansas University

Both are national recgonized as freaking awesome and holy.

Magdalene college in New Hampshire.

Ave Maria in Florida.

Thomas Aquinas out in California somewhere.

Christendom.

That's all I can think of.

I would like to append Ave Maria to my list, but with a word of caution that there is not enough Academic Freedom there.

There is also a college called St. Thomas More College in New Hampshire it is an offshoot of Magdalen and I have visited both and the horrors that you have heard about magdalen are nowhere to be found at Thomas More. It depends on what your major is as well. If you come to New England BEWARE! Many schools claim to be catholic because, at least here in New England, its where the upper eschalon likes to send its kids so they maintain their Catholic title but have lost their Catholic Identity! Some of these include( in no particular order) Boston College, St. Josephs College(Standish, Me) St. Anslems College(Mass) Regis College(Mass) Salve Regina College(RI?) St. Michaels College(VT) Rivier(Mass) Bryant(Mass) and there are more but I will spare you! Gods Speed in your decision making.

God Conquers

If you're interested in Theology ot Philosophy there is ONE (1) Catholic college in all of Canada.

But it is right here in Ottawa.

It's incredible, very small, very tight, very Catholic.

Dominican College.

It's run by the Order of Preachers and has the top Aquinas professor in the world teach there.

Pretty cool.

Theoketos, I'm curious. After Fr. Pacwa and Janet Smith left I had heard that there were some problems at UD. I take it you disagree. I live in Texas and have 5 under college aged children and would like to know how UD is doing. Can you give me a run down on the current state of affairs at UD vis a vie orthodoxy and environment? By environment I mean, is it a relatively good environment for college aged adults to grow in their faith or is it more like a typical secular public college?

Thanks.
