Maria
That should be a warning against Catholics "going funny"!
Of course, But it also means that out-breeding won't necessarily solve problems. That was my point. Once you get an inward-looking group bent on out-breeding another group, things are likely to go funny. Whether it's liberalism that it turns into, or whatever... Basically, I don't think we should encourage people to have children for the sake of out-breeding the liberals. If it just comes as a side effect, I don't think it's as likely that things will go funny.

I remember this issue being discussed in another thread some time back. The devout orthodox Catholic families having lots of children are not doing so as part of some concentrated eugenic effort to "breed-out" liberalism. They simply believe large families are a gift from God, and do not contracept, etc. What's going on demographically is simply the natural results of different, freely chosen, lifestyles. It is not the result of some sinister Right-wing Catholic plot for world-domination.

It's once you get the 'let's outbreed them' mentality that things can go weird.

Cow of Shame
Strange that FP doesn't have anything (Ever) by a Phillip Longman or about birthrates or anything close to that one their cover right now.
He (or the New America Foundation) could by lying out their arses, but if you look under 'cover stories' on this page, it says he did one for Foreign Affairs titled The Global Baby Bust for the June 01, 2004 issue. Odd that they'd be quoting a piece that he did two years ago....
