I'm glad though, that you don't generalize, instead saying what it seems to you about her.

I'd love to wear a veil in Church - all the time, like Denise.

However, like Kateri05, I'm always running about organising stuff for people on campus, and I'm only allowed to do what I do if it can become ecumenical. (So, we have Adoration for half an hour each day, with all sorts of people coming.)

Also, I have been told by my semi-spiritual director that its beautiful that I want to veil myself (for Jesus) I should imagine I have the veil on - causing less controversy in this secular world. lol.

Also, possibly soon enough my head will be veiled anyway ;) (God willing!!)
:idontknow:  I wear it in church, period.  Doesn't matter what Mass I'm at, because regardless, I am at A Mass.  I wear it for Jesus, not for how cool I do or do not look, or for how I may appear to others.  Wearing a simple black mantilla, is not flashy, it's not 'holier than thou', it's to show Jesus that while in the presence of His Glory, I cover my own.

My personal two cents is that if you feel called to do so, it's probably not coming from you.  It's probably coming from Him, who is asking that of you.  Not everyone can do it (or not everyone will), but if you can give your 'yes', how happy He'll be to see you giving that extra reverence.

I agree with everything you said here. What's stopping me, as I've said, is consideration for my environment. Some months ago, I went through a similar process with regards to kneeling for Communion as I am going though with head covering now. I did start kneeling for Communion, and still do. However, I get a lot of thinly disguised suggestions that I am causing a distraction to other people's prayer by kneeling, and/or that I am only doing it to appear pious. My priest has outright forbidden me to kneel for Communion when I am the cantor, because he says it draws too much attention. At that time, he also asked me about my reasons for kneeling, and he seemed rather accusatory.

In this kind of environment, I feel like headcovering would be seen as just another attempt on my part to show how holy I am. If it were just the issue of what other people thought, I'd be able to deal. (Who cares what people think of your showing reverence to the Lord?) however, I'm quite sure it would be distracting as well. A few week when I was at my parents' place, I went to Mass with my head covered. The parish I attend there is similarly "liberal" to the one I attend here, and both times I went there with my head covered, pepple were literally *staring* all through Mass. I don't want to draw attention to myself like that, especially when part of the aim of covering my head is to show and maintain humility before the Lord.

I guess my parish is pretty conservative. We have a true gamut of Masses here. . . one has more contemporary music, one's a Life Teen Mass, and one is more solemn, with some Latin (Sanctus, Agnus Dei, etc.) I am far from being the only person who covers their head in Mass. There's probably about a dozen of us. But, I used to be pretty self conscious about it. And I would look around. But I have never seen anyone staring at me, nor have I received any suggestions that I shouldn't do so.

I can see where you're coming from, especially if your parish is 'more liberal'. When my parents attended Mass, they went to a parish that is more liberal. I wanted to attend with my family, but it became clear that I didn't feel I was in a Catholic church (my pastor told me I should petition the Pope 'like St Therese who petitioned the Pope to enter Carmel at 15' to be able to be the first female priest), so I went across town to a parish that many of my friends went to (go to). Sadly, many other families soon followed me, by either changing parishes, or, in some cases, like my family, don't go any longer to any parish. I pray for them, that they return to the Faith.

I will keep you and your parishes in my prayers.

God bless you.

Well I'm just saying that because she's the only girl I've ever met who wears one, though I know many who do who have never seemed pretentious in the least. I have a feeling that if I wore one I'd be fidgeting with it too. :idontknow:

LOL Well, I usually don't fidget with it, not wanting to draw undue attention to myself. But once, I stood up and it went flying. LOLOL! Yes, I had to fidget that time.

Perhaps a preview of things to come! (God willing!) I had a dream the other day wherein I entered that very Church to pray. I was a professed sister in full habit
