gelibeme
I am in dialouge with some of my Protestant friends. They are open to what the Catholic Church teaches. These are a few questions they asked me that they wanted me to research. Could you help me explain to them what they church teaches on the following: Does your spirit go to heaven as soon as you die? (I tried explaining purgatory) Are spirits ominpresent? (They believe that only God can have that power) Asssume spirits have free will, can they still turn evil? (The context is that Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels choose to turn away from God. Are the saints in heaven still in possession of free will to turn away from God. I tried to explain that they wouldn't want to, their will being one with God's perfect will, and that angels possess a different intellects than humans.) Pio Nono
JMJ 3/2 - Thursday after Ash Wednesday gelibeme, 1.) Each one's soul faces the individual judgment after death. That means, as an individual, each is judged and given his reward. Wherever one "goes", it's pretty immediate - there's no holding cell while waiting for a court date. 2.) Spirits are not omnipresent, but that does not mean that they are bound by physical limitations, either. They are capable of being in more than one "place." I often ask mine to go to adoration for me, especially during exams. : 3.) No. The angels, upon their creation, beheld the face of God. At that point they made their choice either for or against God. Since we humans have a cloudy vision of God (we're material beings), we are capable of repenting because we don't know exactly what it is we are rejecting. The angels had an immediate vision of God, and some (the demons) rejected it. Since they knew what they were accepting/rejecting, they only got one choice and it's set for eternity. Since humans in Heaven directly behold the face of God (which is what they chose on this earth), there would be no desire to turn from it. Hope this helps.
