Dave
As I was driving home from work tonight, I passed by my parish, and there were Christmas lights on it! Do y'all think this is appropriate? I don't know what to think.

Azriel
Light it up! There are lights on all of the trees at my old Parish. Bring out the light, so people can see the light!
frozencell
Back in the day Christmas was more a Christian holiday than a commercialism stunt for the material hungry. I say put up every stinking light you can find on every parish you can find! Remind people know that God is the reason for Christmas, not Best Buy! My old church had what they called a living Christmas Card. They would have people from the church play the roles of the characters in the Christmas Story. They had Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus. Live animals. People stood on top of the church, dressed as angels and sang religious Christmas carols all night. The church was right next the highway and you could see a huge lighted sign for about 2 miles that said "Jesus is the Reason for the Season"! It was truly wonderful!!! Anna
The most beautiful way our Church "shows her colors" is to keep the interior lights on all evening... The beautiful images of the stained glass windows show forth like no string of lights ever could. (Of course, there are wreaths on doors, unlit, and an outdoor nativity scene in the front yard, illumined with a floodlight.) It's kinda spiritual, when you think about it....Keep your light on on the inside, and the beauty of Christ will shine forth! pax Christi. <>< Edited December 18, 2003 by Anna
JP2Iloveyou
it's not really wrong, but nevertheless, liturgicly, it is still the season of Advent, not Christmas. I think it would be more appropriate froma Christian point of view to put them up after Christmas. However, I do think having lights out gets people in the Christmas mood and, if people have the true meaning of Christmas in mind, lead people to look for the coming of the Lord, which is the intent of Advent.
