Brother Adam
Detraction would be accusing him of being a public drunkard behind his back if he were, in fact, a public drunkard - though true, it need not be said (btw, he's not a public drunkard, to make it clear). Accusing him of being a mediocre scholar, on the other hand, is entirely legitimate. He puts his neck out on the public forum and he's got to be willing to get his head chopped off.
Considering he likes to joke about his 'agents' in class and being associated with heterodox teachers (because he choose Doubleday) he puts himself in the public forum. I haven't detracted anyone, neither has anyone else, and it is absurd to close a thread because someone shares the good and the bad of studying under a certian teacher. Give me a break. Era Might
That's called apologetics, not theology.
Apologetics is the defense of the faith. Theology is the science of Divine revelation. Scott Hahn DOES bring apologetics to the masses (see, for example, "Rome Sweet Home"). But he also brings theology to the masses (see, for example, "A Father Who Keeps His Promises"). The two disciplines are distinct, although in Hahn's work as an author, interrelated. By the way, just for clarification purposes, Scott Hahn is NOT a "lay apologist". He is a formal theologian, deputed by a Bishop to teach theology. The Church does not place restrictions on its theologians to write books for academia. Scott Hahn writes books for lay folk. God bless him for it. There are enough books for academics to whet their whistle. Edited March 1, 2006 by Era Might

I thought the point of your thread was to tell us all that Dr. Hahn doesn't like you... that's what YOU called the thread, after all. If your motive was to tell us all about how much you dislike Dr. Hahn (which I think was your true motive) you should have named it that. Based on the title of the original thread (which you started) and keeping true to the OP, we should be discussing your inadequicies-- not Dr. Hahn's. Brother Adam
I just reread the forum guidelines and I did not break any of them. That aside, I am going to add my review to ratemyprofessors.com later today. I think it is a beautiful and much needed website. Students should have the right to the best possible education when they are paying $20,000 for it every year and teachers should not go on unaccountable as if they are God and free from any positive criticism. Luthien
Gosh peoples...I pretty much agree with Adam, on Dr Hahn that is. To idolize any man is usually foolish to do. Obviously Dr. Hahn is a human being, and tend to put him on a pedestal. Though I have heard that many people who don't have the mind for Ratzinger books read Hahns books and convert to Catholicism. I guess my point is, his work is of God, but that doesn't make him St Thomas Aquinas.
