That's when all the pagans come out to Bourboun Street in New Orleans and degenerate the streets.

Or at least it used to be...

We don't do strange stuff like that down here, except the hero gay pride parade is as close as it gets and that not on where I live praise God

Its called fat tuesady [not to be confused with phat :) ] because you use your last bit of fattening stuff up before lent starts, so no goodies are left in the house to tempt you. :)

my daughter used to call it pig out day :D:

Mardi Gras = Fat Tuesday

It is a direct translation.

From my memory and reckoning this means one last day of 'good eating' or living 'fat' before lent.

This was actually a carnival in olden days in some parts of the wrold, including Italie if I am not mistaken (19th century). The carnival would last something like 10 days and be a complete baffle of 'let it all hang out' kind of attitude (though, evidently, not all of those 'let it all hang out' attitudes where all that 'pure').

[quote name='Noel's angel' date='Feb 28 2006, 08:12 AM']I think I'll stick with Shrove Tuesday.  Fat Tuesday sounds a bit, well, greedy to me.  I don't want to be greedy
