Brother Adam
Is it bad that I just don't know what to do or give up for Lent? Nothing would particularly bother me to give up. I'm way to busy with work and homework and getting ready for the new ..... [woah, I almost slipped there!] .... Can we do something extra instead of giving something up? Tony
you most certainly can add instead of subtract
Birgitta Noel
HAHAHAHA, you're funny Of course you can do something extra. Penance isn't always about giving up! Besides, even by doing something extra you're giving up time and your will to be doing something else! Hmmmm, let's see you could start building a. . . oh wait, I digress. I'm sure you'll think of something

I'm still bad at all the 'catholic culture' stuff. I got the liturgical year down, and all the popular saints, but some stuff can still confuse me. inDEED
Yeah, bro...you can DEFINITELY add rather than subtract... Visiting the chapel once a day, praying a rosary daily, etc... Anything that will AID in your spiritual development...
Paphnutius
Oh yeah you can do something more instead. A lot of spiritual directors that I know of get their directees to do something "special" one of each of the following: 1) Fasting, 2) Prayer, 3)Almsgiving/works of charity. If one is unable to fast, then one ought to either increase what they already plan on doing during Lent for prayer or charity. It was funny when I had my first "Lent prep" meeting with my spiritual director. SD:"What do you plan on doing for Lent?" Paph: "Well I plan on abstaining from all artificially sweetened foods (cokes, candy, juices, ice cream, etc...)." SD: "And...?" Paph: "Well....uh...that is all that I had in mind, did you have something else?" We then proceeded to read and discuss Christ's trials in the desert and how we are to imitate them for a straight hour. Needless to say I did not make that same error the next year. I'm trying to decide if I should do something else such as exercise twice a week, pray the rosary daily, or pick up praying the liturgy of the hours again. Those last two I need to do anyway. HomeTeamFamily
i always think of the adding idea as giving up not doing something like if i were to say im going to go to daily mass everyday or say a rosary everyday, then im giving up not going to daily mass or saying the rosary get it?
