Ora et Labora
What is the difference? I am wondering in responce to the SSPX. Why are the Bishops in shism and not considered to have been in apostasy? Maybe I have the two meanings wrong. Help? Kristina
Era Might
Apostasy is the complete renunciation of the Christian faith. Schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or those in communion with him. The Bishops of the SSPX did not renounce the Christian faith (Apostasy), but they did refuse submission to the Roman Pontiff, and hence, became schismatics.
