Daughter_Fatima
I'm interested in an order that runs schools or orphanages. Anyone know of one in the U.S.?
be_thou_my_vision
There are a lot! Here are my favorites: Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration-- These sisters used to run orphanages, but now they just teach and work in health care. LOVE THEM! (Franciscan) Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia-- They all teach! (Dominican) Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist-- They teach too! (Dominican) These sisters all wear habits. Hope this helps! Jenny PS They all have websites.... just put it into google.

Laurentina1975
School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ The King These are the greatest Sisters ever! They taught me in high school and have had an orphanage in the past. They are international and very devoted to the Holy Father. Their Motherhouse is in Rome and their US house is in Lemont Illinois! Do you mean like boarding schools? As far as orphanages go, it might be pretty difficult to find in the U.S. Some orders work with troubled children and adolescents in residential programs in the U.S., but you might have to look at the foreign missions to find sisters running orphanages. shortnun
Daughters of Mary, Mother of Healing Love are a newly established religious community in New Hampshire. They run an orphanage for abused/neglected children and and social work advocates for the children as well. They don't have a website. You can PM me for their address (they're having a retreat in March) or check out this old thread about them. Edited February 25, 2006 by shortnun

the lords sheep
The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart in Los Angeles teach. http://www.cmswr.org/member_communities/OCD.htm Also, one of the apostolates of the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus is a day care in St. Louis, and a home for children (i believe) in Chicago. http://www.carmelitedcj.org Another great order are the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, or the Martyrs for short. One of their many apostolates is teaching. http://www.altonfranciscans.org/ Also, the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara teach in primary and secondary schools as one of their apostolates http://www.ssvmusa.org. These are some of my favorites that I've met. Hope this helps! Good luck in your search and may God bless you!
