Mona
One of the arguments I see alot in favor of women in the priesthood is that people claim that the soul has no gender. Is this true? Thanks!
Pontifex
The only justification for this line of thinking would be Matthew 22:30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God's angels in heaven." Even having noted this, I would argue that although we will have a glorified body we will still have our identities, which include our genders. How they use that as an arguement for women priests is another issue. It doesn't matter. Jesus instituted the priesthood. He called twelve men. He was a rebel and had the courage to do otherwise regardless of the cultural norms, but he didn't. Why? Because priesthood is a shepherding role, one that requires a man to lay down his life for his people. He is the protector, guardian, and "bread winner" of his spiritual family. This is a male role. Any arguement with that is an attempt to blur true roles of gender set up by God. In Christ, Fr. Burns
phatcatholic
also, ordaining only men has nothing to do with the gender of their soul, so pointing out that souls don't have a gender, even supposing that this were true, is still a moot point. its irrelevant.
