Old_Joe
I chose St. Joseph of Cupertino because he's the patron saint of astronauts and I kinda wanted to be at that age. However, much later in my life I felt a need to learn more about him. I found his story in several books on saints' lives, but I only found one book on him specifically. As I was reading it, I realized that we have a great deal in common, which made me think that I didn't really choose him to be my confirmation saint in the first place. Jazz4jesus
I just used my name, which I now greatly regret doing. I was going to use either Teresa or Helen, but for one reason and another I didn't (and the reasons seem REALLy lame now!). But both were the names of saints (obviously) and the names of important people in my life (Teresa was my confirmation sponsor). I would also think of looking up a patron saint of something that applies to you significantly. I think that as long as you chose a name with meaning you'll be happy with it.
your not Alone I think i was just to busy with other things i didnt want to bother with another name. I regret it, I would of chosen Michael cause i pray to him alot, Francis of Assissi cause the life he had and gave away and cause of his teachings. But yea pick something meaningfull to you, not just a name but its a story behind a name as well.
SanctifyMe
Wow, thanks to all of you for your stories, and insight. I am drawn to a few; St. Catherine of Sienna....(my Godmother is a Katherine). St. Therese of Lisieux....because of her childlike faith in God, and her strong reliance on Prayer. Also St. Clare, for her determination, and faithfulness. I have not come to a decision yet. thanks everyone.
franciscanheart
I was affected by the story of St. Maria Goretti. I wished to embody her saintly qualities. I have to admit though that if I could go back and do it all over, I would have chosen St Thomas Aquinas... no one told me I could have chosen a male name... Pio Nono
JMJ 2/20 - Seventh Monday I didn't really care about much when I was confirmed, so I looked for the strangest name that I could find in Butler's...so, I took Apollinarius of Ravenna. : Turns out he's one of the more important martyrs in the history of our faith, but his cult kinda fell by the wayside when his feast was removed from the calendar in 1969. Thankfully, JP II reinstituted it in 2002. I just completed a course in hagiography (writings concerning the saints) and I wrote a six page paper on the life of Apollinarius. He's a prooty cool cat. Andrea348
i chose Barbara because of a woman on my very first retreat. i had wanted her to be my sponser, but my mom made me pick my aunt. after researching more about St. Barbara, I found out she was a pretty cool saint as well.
