I will become 'officially' catholic, at Easter Vigil this yr on April 15th. Im being baptized, and confirmed. (so excited)

I am in the process of choosing my confirmation name (saint).

I wondered if anyone on phatmass had stories of how they chose their confirmation name.

there are so many saints.

im also considering using the name of my Godmother to be~which is also a saint.

I wondered how all of you chose yours.

thanks.

My confirmation name was Michael, after St. Michael the Arch Angel. I choose him, I guess because I offen ask St. Michael to pray for the unborn that die in the Abortion Holocaust, which is a war between good and evil.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen

My confirmation name is Dominic Savio. He was an awesome saint because he was so innocent and pure...that is why I chose him. I want to stay pure in thought word and deed the rest of my life.

I just used my name, which I now greatly regret doing. I was going to use either Teresa or Helen, but for one reason and another I didn't (and the reasons seem REALLy lame now!). But both were the names of saints (obviously) and the names of important people in my life (Teresa was my confirmation sponsor). I would also think of looking up a patron saint of something that applies to you significantly. I think that as long as you chose a name with meaning you'll be happy with it.

I used Joan after St. Joan of Arc because her life inspired me to become catholic and I always ask for her intercession. I felt connected to her b/c she was a teen and I'm a teen also because I want to be strong like she was and to be able to fight the battles I'll have to fight with the grace and strength she had.

When I was first seriously thinking about religious life, I read the autobiography of St. Margaret Mary. I think it did me a lot of good, and I've read it several times since then. I took her as one of my unofficial patrons becuase my given name isn't connected to any saint. Also, my mom says that she wishes she would have named me Mary. So, Margaret Mary was a natural choice for me because of all these things.

I chose Elizabeth of Portugal. My middle name was chosen after my dad's mom, and I wanted to have my mom's mom represented and her conf. name was Elizabeth. I chose Portugal b/c i liked her the best!

I chose St Anthony of the Desert, Patriarch of Catholic Monasticism. I did so because after hearing how he reacted to Our Lord's words 'to give up everything'--taking the words literally and becoming a hermit--I was deeply touched by St Anthony's willingness to do whatever God wanted of him. The day I heard that story I wanted to have that same complete conformity to Christ and, even now in my mediocre state of soul, I still wish for it. I chose St Anthony of the Desert in hope that his intercession could help me have a heart like his and I believe that someday I shall (even if thats the last day of my life :P: ).

My confirmation is also coming up (I can't express how excited I am)! I have no idea what my confirmation name will be... I guess I've got some thinking to do.

Maybe Brebeuf, after the North American martyr St. Jean de Brebeuf. If there is a saint I feel a kinship with, it is the great "Echon." (FYI, Echon was the name given to Brebeuf by the Huron nation in New France, where he lived among the natives for over two decades before his martyrdom at the hands of the Iroquois.)

My Confirmation name is Clare - after St Clare of Assisi. It's funny, because she will be my holy Mother, as (God-willing) I plan to enter Poor Clares once my braces come off.

I chose Genevieve after the French saint. She's not very well known, but pretty awesome. I chose her mostly for her great devotion to the Mass.
