catholicinsd
Ok, if a priest were to learn that someone wad being abused would he be allowed to report it? If someone were suicidal could he get help without the confesser's knowledge?
cappie
I hope this answers your question: Can. 983 §1 The sacramental seal is inviolable. Accordingly, it is absolutely wrong for a confessor in any way to betray the penitent, for any reason whatsoever, whether by word or in any other fashion. It may seem harsh but it is important that people trust the priest. Everything disclosed to the priest whether absolution is given or not comes under the seal of confession. The latin word nefas (absolutely wrong) shown how seriously the canon is regarded. Put simply the priest is strictly forbidden to reveal by any means anything the penitent may have disclosed to him.
