Pipe smoking is healthy!
An article in the Summer 1990 issue of The Compleat Smoker describes an interesting longevity study conducted in Pennsylvania during the late '60s and early '70s. An organization called No Other World performed the research with the assistance of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Lung Association and regional chapters of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. "In the study," reports The Compleat Smoker, "pipe smokers attained an average age of 78--two years older than their non-smoking male counterparts." This may say something about the stress-reducing benefits of pipe smoking. At the very least, it suggests that moderate pipe smoking is not a significant health hazard.
found this at "Dappled Things", which I found while searching for pipe smoking quotes because I have become so enamoured with the practice especially after the purchase of my clay pipe... haha as a matter of fact, I believe my girl would attest to the fact that ever since I've started pipe smoking, I've been more likely to have minty fresh breath

and once I send her this artical, all her opposition to my pipe will melt away!!!

THE PIPE WILL TRIUMPH! the layman's incense, the ambrosia of intellectuals, the great contribution of America to Western Civilization.

God bless tobacco in all the rich flavors we have formed... and God bless the glorious pipes through which we send its firey remnants to the heavens

I much prefer the real deal.

If my grandma didn't have asthma I'd burn church incense in the house.

prejudice. pure anti-tobacco prejudice.

check the study, which was done in conjuction with the Northwestern Pennsylvania Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American heart assosiation

"pipe smokers attained an average age of 78--two years older than their non-smoking male counterparts."

reasonable pipe smoking offers health benefits like stress reduction which can, in the long run, theoretically prolong life! at the very least it is not a significant health hazard

if the symbolism was more profound, then why wouldn't we all be smoking pipes at Mass?
