omg ive been waiting for this thread

i too am a pen fanatic.....the pen must be well balanced, and write easily.

im not much for the fancy tip, i prefer a nice rolling ball tip.

also, for me, the pen must spin well.....for those who dont know i can do a little trick whereby i spin the pen around my thumb using my index finger....its tricky but looks awesome when done correctly.

my favorite pen, and perhaps the best pen of all time is the pilot p-500 extra fine rolling ball gel ink pen.....it is truly an amazing writing experience.

i would highly recommend it to anyone. it has a medium sized barrel that is easy for my large hands to grip.....a textured but not gripy handle, very smooth ink flow, and comes in several colors. very good for those who prefer a fine tip pen

id love to chat with yall about pens if anyones interested just hit me up on aim

peesh

I'm a writer and pens are important to me. However, I don't like fancy pens. I'm attached to the bic crystal ball point pen with blue ink I refuse to use black ink.

I'm astonished at your brazenness.

Apparently Rick has yet to find his perfect quill.

Hmmm.

Same criteria as morostheos. Smooth, no bleed through, solid line, feels nice. I tend to write for many, many pages, and I don't hold pens quite right, so a cushy grip helps. I use lots of different colors, often at the same time.

I have had snazzy pens, but they are so likely to be lost that I hesitate to really use them. I must have that Waterman around here somewhere... Maybe near the custom-made ebony pen? Wherever I've put that. :idontknow: I also have some spiffy German artists' pens, and some nibs for calligraphy and copperplate script. And many bottles of spiffy inks.

Gel pens are good. Lately I like the cheapie Pentel R.S.V.P ballpoint in black or red. (The blue doesn't work well, for some reason.)

At hand right now: 3 gel pens (gold, silver, black); 3 liquid ink (red, green, black); lots of ball point (red, blue, black); 5 highlighters (yellow, blue, pink, green, orange). I always have a zillion pens with me. On the spur of the moment, I was able to supply an entire writers workshop for a game of Scattergories.

I prefrer pens with caps... apparently. I don't consciously choose one style over the other.

I can't recall having a pen leak on me.... but I get enough ink all over myself without help.

So today I went to reach for my lovely pen, and sadly found that my pen is broken.

:sadder:

I'm going to have to prepare a proper sendoff for it.

Soj, I am so sorry for your loss. I hate losing a great pen. :(

On the other hand, I am just now reading this thread for the first time... its pretty hilarious.

I like calligraphy pens (surprise!)...but I can't afford them.
I got a Scheaffer calligraphy pen at an office supply store (Staples maybe? I forget which one...) for $8.00, it came with 3 tip sizes (fine, med, and bold) and some spare ink. The replacement ink can get pricey, but you can find it in a plethora of colors for pretty cheap online. I don't use mine regularly for any old writing because I do find calligraphy pens in general to be a little on the thick side so they usually end up hurting my middle finger after awhile, so I only use it for special occasions.

Must write smoothly, and not slip in my hand.

I have an affinity for pens. :P:

I love office supply stores. Back to school season just sends me into a tizzy.

Ditto.

Ditto.

Me, too.

Do people prefer their pens with caps or not?

I personally think that the uncapped is more attractive and looks more professional
Uncapped. If I have a capped pen I lose the cap. Never fail.
i totally agree - i am a pen fanatic. it has to be black ink and it has to be a fine point tip. i don't mind plastic, but finding a fine point tip (.5 or .3) is getting really hard these days.
I prefer black as well, but if I'm at a loss for a pen any pen (even if its blue) will suffice. Ink has to flow nicely, I'm a fan of the liquid ink pens (like the Pilot Precise line, but sometimes they can be really hard to find!).... I like them even though they're capped! lol
Here's a question -- is thickness or length more important?

Personally, I don't like a pen that's too long or too thick. I like a pen that fits just right.
If its too thick its difficult to hold and ends up hurting my fingers, same with too thin.

I'm kind of slow, so bear with me.

Is this thread really about pens? Cause when I read the title, I thought it said something else.

It reminds me of that SNL Jeopardy skit with Will Farrel as Alex Trebeck and some other dude as Sean Connery. The category was "The Pen Is Mightier."
PS - Today I am 9 months + 2 days pregnant! There's no blood in my brain!!

After reading this post I just couldn't read the thread the same way anymore...

I like the clicky pens without caps. My church has pens with our name on it "Holy Trinity Student Parish" that are perfect, I love them.
