banning gays from the priesthood

dairygirl4u2c

If the pope bans homosexuals who don't act on it from the priesthood, as indicated possible in the link below, would your stance regarding banning them change from what it currently is to conform to the ban?
My point was that Homosexuals can be just as faithful to the Church as Heterosexuals can. And in some cases the Heterosexual may struggle more in containing his urges then a homosexual. So a disordered condition such as Homosexuality is not enough to disallow them from the preisthood.

There are many "things" that do not lead toward any good. Men attach themselves to many goods and that attachment is just as much as a objective disorder as homosexuality.

I think Paphnutius did a good job of answering this, but again, the issue goes beyond whether one is inclined to commit sins. It is a question of his entire soundness as a man.

Read the original document. It is not about punishing "evil" people, but about keeping out those who are unfit for priestly duties. Not everyone who is faithful to the Church is cut out to be a priest. Again, no one has a
right
to the priesthood.

And no one said homosexuality is the only thing which would preclude one from the priesthood.

This policy was made by those with far more knowledge and experience with this issue than myself, and, as the Church's policy, must be respected by Catholics.
But keep in mind that there are some rather straight headed homosexuals that may do just fine. He may even be a great priest.
If he's straight headed, he wouldn't be homosexual!
Whether you are homosexual or heterosexual, you should be taken in as an individual case by cases basis.

That's what they've been doing here for years, and the results have been tragic. Note that over 80% of the sex-abuse scandals have been homosexual in nature.
"Well-designed research studies have demonstrated a much higher prevalence of psychiatric illness in those who identify themselves as homosexual."
But couldn't that be explained by the stress and anxiety that is caused by just being gay in today's unacceptive society? This could lead to self-denial, self-hatred and maybe even to the brink of suicide. This is a factor that non-gay people don't have. And it probably ruins the statistics.

The lack of common sense sorrounding this issue is astounding. You dont put men with ssa or gay men into a seminary full of men. How hard is that to see and inforce?

Sorry I did not see your post until just now....to answer that the doc said:
These individuals in the priesthood have a significant affective immaturity with excessive anger and jealousy toward males who are not homosexual, insecurity that leads them to avoid close friendships with such males and an inordinate need for attention.

Most of these men had painful adolescent experiences of significant loneliness and sadness, felt insecure in their masculinity, and had a poor body image. Well-designed research studies have demonstrated a much higher prevalence of psychiatric illness in those who identify themselves as homosexual.
So while the cultural non-acceptance (in some places) does not help with the psychological issues, they do not result only from non-acceptance. The psycologist pointed out that same-sex attractions often are a result from something gone awry in the childhood stages as mentioned above. The psychiatric illnesses mentioned are not helped by the social pressure, but are not caused by them neither. They result from some other source.

Vatican II said absolutely nothing about homosexuals being allowed in the priesthood.

Enough of this "Rad Trad" silliness!

Hm. I guess it could be that way. I don't know.
