Christology

Wow. I had my first class today. I think I'm going to love it. It's what I've been looking for in theology classes, even though it is extremely difficult, so I"ve been told. We are studying scripture and the early fathers and councils the whole way, especially the forth and fifth century as well as reading Cardinal Schoenborn. Oh yeah.

I really wanted to take Christology at my school this semester. I've read the syllabus for it, and it sounds sooooooo good. But alas, conflict in scheduling won't allow it. <_<
my classes at the seminary begin tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to my class studying JP2's Theology of the Body

GAH! All of these wonderful classes. I'm talking Intro to Catholic Morality this semester. So I can't take Catholic Sexual Morality (where they read ToftheB) until next year!!!

I shouldn't complain, I've got rockin' classes this semester. :D:

What text are you using for Christology? We're (thankfully) using a good one - Jesus Christ: Principles of Christology by Roch Kereszty. I feel as if I will have to teach myself, so I need other sources to read besides him. Ideas?

My Christology prof leaves much to be desired.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to teach myself. :(

Don't feel bad, that was one of the classes I got nothing out of, since, no offense to the prof., he did not either know or want to teach (he was about to leave for sabbatical) Besides, when you have Walter Kasper "Jesus The Christ" as the textbook, your interest quickly wanes.

God Bless

Yeah, Jesus the Christ is an optional text for the course. I have some misgivings about Cardinal Kasper, but that's just me. He also has a work by Jean Galot, as well as Luke Timothy Johnson's The Creed. I trust Johnson (especially his book The Real Jesus), but I need more stuff to read.

Yeah, Johnson is OK. I believe he is a former Catholic monk. As to Kasper, I share in those misgivings.

I had my first lectures in post Nicene Christology today. We did a little of the preliminaries refreshing last terms work from Tertullian, Hippolytus, Clement of Alexandrian and Origen (which was really handy cos I missed most of the lecture, LOL :P: ) and then went on to Marcellus, Eusebius, and a few other faces. It was quite interesting actually I enjoyed it. I like St Cyril of Alexandria's 2nd letter to Nestorius and his letter to John of Antioch. Those Alexandrians were awesome...

Wow really I dont trust Kasper either lol and yes Johnson is a former Benedictine though I value his critiques of Historical Criticism such as 'the real Jesus' and 'living Jesus'.
