thessalonian
Church in new york must provide contraceptives. http://www.catholic.org/national/national_story.php?id=18304 Wonder what they are doing in California about a similar law that this article says is being upheld. prose
That smells of elderberries. I want to say that they should just not do it, but then they may not be able to afford the fines and lawsuits.

nowak.chris
Indeed, we have a duty not to obey an unjust law, paritcularly one that would be sinful.
thessalonian
I must also say the Church needs to stand unified here and support them in their fight against this, perhaps defraying some of the cost among Catholics throughtout the country. We are the body of Christ, not the bodies of Christ. This must be fought NOW tooth and nail. There are 48 states left to enact such laws. As each state does the sledding gets tougher. CHARGE! thessalonian
Also did you catch this? This is why it must be opposed with every fiber of who we are. "The statement from Richard E. Barnes, executive director of the organization that represents the state's bishops in public policy matters, said the plaintiffs believe supporters of the contraceptive legislation hope to expand the mandate to require coverage for abortion." Spiritual battles require fortitude. Edited January 16, 2006 by thessalonian

Didacus
You have got to be kidding me! Why in heaven's name is contraceptive and abortion consider medical benefits in the first flippin' place?!?!? Care to tell me from what medical illness people suffer when using these methods? What is it called; horniculosis? How about pregmatosis-of-the-lower-abdomen? Both considtion make the person do things that are completely out of their own control and should be cared for buy the proper medical procedures including condoms and abortions. SFD!!! I can barely refrain myself!!! SFFD!!! God help me! God help us all!
morostheos
So what are Church entities in these two states currently doing? What can we do to encourage them not to follow the law if they currently are following it?
Brother Adam
Who says they should fight a lawsuit? The Church is not under the State. That is not to say that they should not obey just laws, such as filling out paperwork to be non-profit, fine and all, but there is no sense in them paying a dime to fight a lawsuit. They just don't respond at all. What are they going to do, force Churches out of NY? Fine. That will look really good on TV.

Suffering is a part of persecution.
