Extra ecclesiam nulla salus
I just got back from the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy I went to. It was in a small church. It had many beatiful icons, especially on the Holy door. It seemed to be a bit latinzed because many members genuflected, crossed them selves like Latins, and we kneeled during the consecration. The Holy Mother of God had a much more central part in the Liturgy then in the Novus Ordo. I enjoyed it, and liked the fact that we could all sing. Unfourtunatley people kept moving about and talking in the small church, and the Sermon seemed to be more of a Joke than anything else. I also liked how the Parish seemed to be very community oriented with just a small number of members. It was completly sun, with incencse. If anyone ever has the chance to go to a divine liturgy you should. It was very beatiful and truly reflects on the universaliness of the Church. p.s to all of you who have gone to a DL before: Do the children always gather underneath the bible as it is read and then Kiss it? or is that just at the parish i went to? God Bless, Sam

qfnol31
By the way, I don't actually remember what happened with the kids at the Divine Liturgy I've been to...I do remember no kneeling and such, but I know for a fact the rubrics are much less strict in the East. Sometimes there's a procession to kiss the Gospel book. It's actually quite beautiful. Which Rite did you attend?
photosynthesis
I still have never gone to an Eastern Rite Divine Liturgy... I would want to try it sometime though

Myles Domini
Cool, either way St Gregory Palamas is the fountainhead for such things when it comes to Constantinopolitan liturgical life. You may want to buy his book 'The Life of Christ' too. I'm sure someone of your temprament would enjoy both titles I've recommended.
