Homestarlover85
Hey guys, So tomorrow I have to give a talk about the gospels for a local youth group. From what I can tell, most of these kids dont want to be there. I have to give a talk about the gospels and how they portray jesus. I was thinking about doing a harry potter theme. I have a few ideas of how to do it, and critiques and suggestions are welcome. I am going to post again, as soon as i post this little snippet, just to get some people to read, and reply any suggestions. They might have. I will outline, what I am thinking about talking about...in my next post...bound to be up in a few minutes... so post any ideas...even if its not harry potter related...i'll be posting as you post! thanks guys! curtins
harry potter- considering it advocates magic- idk if it'd be so good- depends what age the kids are- if they're teens idk if they'd think thats a little to babyish0 but if thye're too young u dont wanna indoctrinate them with harry potter so they dont understand what magic really is. tell me a little bit more about it and ill try to help. i ll pray for you

missionseeker
if you're growing a beard you could say The other day I was thinking of how I could be more like Jesus so, I started growing a beard. I was a youth conference today and a college quest speaker type dude said that.

SheepAmongWolves
Harry Potter might work, it's popular with most teens (it isn't babyish, I'm a Junior in High school and most people I know like it.) Narnia may also be a good idea, but it's less popular. Also be "real" about it. Don't sugar coat the gospel messege. Admit that it's tough to be a teen and live for Christ. Because if you do, it's going to affect your actions and then you'll be labeled as "not cool." It's hard for teens because if everyone is drinking, drugging, making sex jokes, participating in unchaste behavior, and you're not makes feel guilty. And they don't want to hang out with you as much. Admit to the teens that you're talking to that it's not easy, but show them it's possible. And I feel my sentences are constructed badly, so I apologize. <><

SheepAmongWolves
Why did you write high school three times. (insert confusion here) I'm guessing to say that this will all pass at the end of high school. Edited January 15, 2006 by SheepAmongWolves
curtins
since they are teens- i would pretty much tell it as it is. like someone said- dont sugar coat it. relate it to their lives - make connections. good luck
missionseeker
Find the passage where it says about how Jesus told them that they would have to eat His Flesh in oder to get into Heaven and so many of His followers walked away because it too hard for them to understand, do, or whatever. You could make this your tying together point. That Jesus didn't go after them and say "whoa wait, I didn't really mean that it was just symbolism" (most kids, I would think don't really know this story as much as say the woman at the well ) Faith isn't a thing that's compromise-able we have to live the Gospels no matter how hard. want me to like, elaborate more? O, btw, i'm a highschool senior
