As far as the US goes, I don't really know any details. But I've heard of schools that are good for music, but you'd really have to look into it because a school can be good for composition but bad for performance, or good for jazz and lack opera altogether, etc.. I really don't know the details.

Ivy league schools that come to mind: Cornell, Yale and Harvard.. Among the conservatories you might look at Curtis, Julliard, Eastman, Peabody, Hartt.
Many of the big universities have excellent music programs depending on what you're interested in, for example: University of Oregon, Indiana University, University of California at Santa Barbara, Florida State University, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Miami University, Carnegie Mellon University, Johns Hopkins University (joint thing with Peabody I believe), Northwestern University, Columbia University.

You might also want to look into New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute of Technology, Boston Univeristy, Oberlin College, Stetson University, Case Western, Rice Shepherd School of Music, Vanderbilt Blair School of Music, University of the Pacific..

I hope this helps.

Oh, and Catholic schools.. Definitely not FUS, their arts are utterly non-existent I'm sad to say. Perhaps Boston College and/or University of Dallas have something worth looking into?

haha, historically we've done a pretty good job. But yeah, American Catholics need some help in this area. :)

Hey awesome! Thanks heaps :D: Unfortunately, my marks aren't Cambridge-worthy, so I imagine that also knocks out Ivy league schools. hehe.

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at Catholic University of America.

Catholic is in Washington DC and they are right near the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the most beautiful basilica in the U.S and the biggest church in North America. They have an Institute of Sacred Music, which is pretty cool. Plus DC has a thriving Catholic community (along with the university and everything)
I'm not sure about Catholic universities...  I don't know of any Catholic music conservatories or any Catholic colleges known for their music departments...  But I do know that the Peabody Conservatory is part of Johns Hopkins University, which is a very distinguished American university and they offer Latin.

also, I have a lot of friends who go to Westminster Choir College...  it's a college just for chorus geeks!  http://www.rider.edu/284.htm  It's in Princeton, New Jersey.

if I were to go to grad school, I'd probably want to get a graduate degree in choral music, but I'd have a ton of prerequisites to get out of the way...  either that or philosophy + religion...  but who am I kidding?

I want to second the CUA school of music. It is fantastic. I am a singer and I recently attended a concert at the DC Cathedral (St. Matthew's). They were quite good. And the student body is 80% Catholic. And mostly orthodox at that. And the chance to sing in the largest Church this side of St. Paul's is pretty nice.

I wish FUS had a music major. I'm double-majoring in theology and catechetics with the youth ministry concentration, but I REALLY wanted something like a sacred music degree. I wonder, if I took the music minor, would I be able to take the minor credits and apply them to a major at another scool? =T

If you have any questions about the prog. PM me, I'm an alumnae.

This place sounds interesting, though it's not what you're looking for.
