benedictaj
I've been daydreaming, and its caused me to think about the possiblity of doing an exchange. Being from a far away country, I have very little idea of what universities have really good music (especially voice) and language (mainly Latin, although French and Italian can count.) and history (particularly early modern Europe) departments. Any American universities you'd recommend? I'm looking more at going to France or Scotland, but I thought I'd ask y'all here as well. : I'd be looking at doing this exchange for the 2007-2008 academic year. (Unless I'm in the convent by then, lol.) I haven't chosen my major yet, so thats why I've mentioned all my subjects. So this is pure speculation, lol - and your opinions/knowledge. Thy Geekdom Come
What's your tuition range in USD? qfnol31
If you can manage it, UD sounds really good for you.
photosynthesis
I'm not sure about Catholic universities... I don't know of any Catholic music conservatories or any Catholic colleges known for their music departments... But I do know that the Peabody Conservatory is part of Johns Hopkins University, which is a very distinguished American university and they offer Latin. also, I have a lot of friends who go to Westminster Choir College... it's a college just for chorus geeks! http://www.rider.edu/284.htm It's in Princeton, New Jersey. if I were to go to grad school, I'd probably want to get a graduate degree in choral music, but I'd have a ton of prerequisites to get out of the way... either that or philosophy + religion... but who am I kidding? qfnol31
Our college doesn't have a music major...but it does have a choir that sings in lots of cool places. EWTN, Spain, Rome, France, etc.
Tata126
Well, UD has the Collegium Cantorum, and I can send you some of their songs sometime if you like - we don't have a music major, but the choir is amazing, if I do say so myself; we do Renaissance polyphony -, and I don't think I exaggerate when I say that we have one of the best Classics departments in the country. *smug face here*

Tata126
Thank you, Zach. Mrs. Walker disagrees with you, about the singing well part, but I'm glad you have confidence in me. Zach sings bass. He's my recruit, so of course he sings well, else I wouldn't have recruited him. :-P

photosynthesis
cool! It sounds like a lot of fun. we should resurrect my Phatmass chorus thread I'm an alto. It's good to be an alto!
qfnol31
Just so I don't overrun the thread myself, I wanted to say we have a great Classics program and I think history's pretty good, too. It is a lot of work though..
photosynthesis
basses are awesome. right now I just finished college so I'm looking for a local choir to join. my choices seem to be a local Madrigal choir, my parish choir (thumbs down) the Cathedral choir (thumbs up!) and the Tridentine Mass choir at a nearby parish
